More than 800 people waiting for NHS treatment in North Somerset

The latest NHS waiting list figures reveal that more than 800 people in North Somerset have been waiting more than 18 weeks for treatment, despite claims from the Labour Government that there are no waiting lists in the NHS.

According to the latest NHS waiting list figures, more than 8,202 people in North Somerset were waiting for NHS treatment at the end of June following referral, with 864 of them - more than 10% - waiting more that 18 weeks.

Mike Bell, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Weston-super-Mare, said: "The Health Secretary says there are no more waiting lists in the NHS, yet Government figures prove that hundreds of local people are stuck waiting longer than 18 weeks for treatment.

"This just shows how out of touch this Labour Government has become. They do not know what is going on in their own services.

"The Government has systematically under-funded health services in Weston and North Somerset and burdened local GPs and hospitals with targets and red tape instead of letting them get on with their job. We need a health service which gets people treatment fast and has the flexibility to meet the demands of the public."
