Locals urged to sign up to 10:10 Climate Change Campaign12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 15th Sep 2009
A Weston campaigner is urging local residents, schools, hospitals, businesses and organisations to sign up to a new national campaign to reduce carbon emissions by 10% in 2010. Mike Bell, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Weston-super-Mare has signed up to the 10:10 campaign and in doing so has pledged to reduce his carbon emissions. He wants other local residents and groups to sign up to and pledge to cut their own emissions by making simple changes that will have a wider effect in the fight against climate change. Mike Bell said: "I am pleased to have signed up to the 10:10 campaign, as it is an excellent way to highlight the importance of climate change and encourage efforts to combat it. If everybody contributes by cutting their own emissions or emissions in their workplace or school and by making small but significant changes to our lifestyles, then we can make a real and substantial step towards fighting the damage that is being done to our environment. "I would encourage everybody in Weston-super-Mare and North Somerset to sign up to the campaign as damage to the environment is one of the most serious issues facing us today. Carbon emissions are doing profound and irreversible damage but if everyone commits themselves in a small way to cutting their own emissions then we can help to achieve a greener and cleaner country for all." More details about the 10:10 campaign can be found at the campaign website: http://www.1010uk.org/
