Unemployment up in North Somerset

Unemployment in North Somerset has shot up by more than 50 per cent since the beginning of the year.
Jobseeker's Allowance was given to 3,102 district residents in March, up from 2,061 in December.
Year on year, the number of people out of work and claiming benefits has risen by almost 160 per cent from 1,194.
Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate for Weston Mike Bell said: "The ever rising dole queues are a real worry for people living in this area. Weston is being hit hard, with two thirds of the jobless in the district living in the town.
"Unemployment is heading back to the levels we suffered under the last Conservative government and the Government's response in the budget is wholly inadequate. Businesses and ordinary folk need a helping hand, not tax rises and terrifying levels of national debt that may never be paid off."
