Budget leaves many Weston families worse off11.00.01am GMT Tue 18th Mar 2008 Weston-super-Mare campaigner Mike Bell has criticised Alistair Darling's Budget for lacking in imagination and failing to tackle the big challenges facing Britain. Mike Bell said: "This was a very flat and uninspiring first Budget from Alistair Darling. It failed to tackle the big challenges facing Britain. The economy is struggling, with house prices falling, higher inflation and soaring Government borrowing. "Weston families needed a helping hand from the Government, with fairer taxes, especially for those on the lowest incomes. Instead, Gordon Brown's tax changes from last year, which will come into effect in April, will leave thousands of the lowest paid local people worse off."
