Bristol exports crime, time for some police too3.14.03pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 27th Apr 2004
The Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Woodspring Constituency used a briefing for North Somerset Councillors with police district commander Chief Superintendent Tracy Hayler last night to call for more police resources from Bristol to be deployed in North Somerset. Councillor Mike Bell spoke out about crime and anti-social behaviour in the villages and towns of North Somerset at the meeting in the Town Hall in Weston last night. Mike comments: "We all know that many of the professional criminals and drug dealers come into North Somerset from Bristol to commit their offences. "Villages like Long Ashton and Pill and towns like Portishead are particularly vulnerable to opportunistic professional burglars from the city. Since Bristol exports its crime problems to our community, I think it is about time we had some of their police resources exported too. "It is in the interests of all residents in Bristol and North Somerset for these hard core criminals to be caught so that their crime sprees can be brought to an end. To do that effectively we must have more police on the streets of North Somerset."
