Bell backs call to keep Rozel name

Weston-super-Mare Councillor Mike Bell has backed calls for the new development on the site of the Rozel Hotel to keep the Rozel name.

Mike Bell said: "Lots of residents in the ward I represent opposed the demolition of the Rozel Hotel and Marlborough flats next door. These properties, particularly the Rozel Hotel, had long formed part of Weston's magnificent sea front and it is a great shame to see our victorian heritage being bulldozed to the ground.

"However, the fate of the Rozel Hotel is an inevitable consequence of the decline of tourism in Weston. So long as North Somerset Council fails to invest in tourism and fails to attract new tourism and leisure businesses to the town, I fear that the downward trend can only continue.

"However, I hope that the new property on the Rozel site will be a fitting addition to the seafront and will keep the Rozel name so that the contribution of the hotel and the family and workers who ran it can be remembered well into the future."
