Midweek Column: Time for change?Written by Mike Bell and published in Weston Mercury Midweek on Wed 27th May 2009 EVER thought MPs are more about party politics than the people who voted for them? Wish someone would just put Weston first? Me too. That's why I'm fighting for change - and I want to hear your views. The MP expenses scandal has shocked us all. We expect more from our politicians - honesty, standards and respect to name the basics. As the 'gentleman's club era' comes to an end it's a unique opportunity for change. For 90 of the last 100 years Conservatives have been in power in Weston and we have NEVER had an MP representing us who was actually born here. This town deserves an MP who is truly passionate about Weston, not duck houses. Who better than a Westonian? I'm a normal, family man who was born here, went to Worle School and has campaigned for local people for 15 years. Why? Because I refuse to walk down the street and close my eyes to drug addicts, traffic jams or rubbish. Our town deserves better. When the general election comes choices need to be made and now is the time for change. Those in power have had long enough and made little difference to Weston. Now is the time for someone from Weston to fight for our town in Westminster, to support the local choice not the London choice. I want to be your local choice and gain the privilege of being the first Westonian to represent Weston. So please tell me what you think the top priorities for our town are and give me the chance to fight for them.
